As an orthodontist, I have the opportunity to create lifelong relationships with patients and families. Because we are observing and treating patients over the years, the relationships are quite special.

I chose orthodontics as a career because it brings me so much happiness to help a person find his or her smile. My favorite moment is when we remove a person’s braces and they see their new smile for the first time. The confidence a healthy, straight, and beautiful smile can bring to a person is a blessing to witness!

Growing up, I knew I wanted to be in the healthcare field because I wanted to help others. I also had family in the business — my mother is a general dentist and my father and grandfather both orthodontists — so I was always around oral healthcare. I saw how much my parents enjoyed helping people find smiles they loved, and how they valued the relationships with their patients. This is an amazing field and I feel fortunate to be part of it!

Education

A Santa Rosa native, Dr. Jacqui Payne has lived in the community her whole life, except while away at school.

She attended Georgetown University, where she completed a Bachelor of Science in human science. She obtained her Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, and graduated as a member of Tau Kappa Omega Honors Society. Continuing at the UOP School of Dentistry, Dr. Payne completed her orthodontic residency and received her orthodontic certificate and Master of Science.

Professional Affiliations and Continuing Education

In addition to being board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics, Dr. Payne is an active member of the:

  • American Association of Orthodontists
  • Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists
  • CADABOk
  • American Dental Association
  • California Dental Association
  • Redwood Dental Society
  • Spear Study Group

Through these organizations, Dr. Payne has access to numerous opportunities to expand her knowledge and stay at the forefront of the latest developments in the orthodontic specialty.

Currently, Dr. Payne’s continuing education (CE) interests focus on screening for sleep apnea, miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expanders (MARPE), and clear-aligner orthodontic treatment. Immersing herself in CE ensures that Dr. Payne provides her patients with the best of modern orthodontics and predictable, beautiful results.

Beyond the Practice

Dr. Payne’s Bernedoodle puppy, Indie, is her constant companion who sometimes makes a guest appearance at the office. Much of her free time is spent with her boyfriend Michael, a third-generation dentist currently practicing alongside her mother, Dr. Leslie Jue, in Santa Rosa.

The couple enjoys being outdoors: camping, backpacking, hiking, mountain biking, and skiing are among their favorite pursuits. They’ll be conquering Mt. Whitney this year!

On a personal note, Dr. Payne is passionate about understanding cultures different from her own. Everyone comes from unique backgrounds, and Dr. Payne believes that by traveling and immersing oneself in others’ experiences, we can be more understanding and accepting of each other.

Toward this end, she recently participated in a dental outreach trip to the Philippines. There, she and other volunteers provided dental education as well as treatment to elementary-aged children.
